Did you know nationally:
1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men report being raped during their lifetime.
Here in SC:
45.9% of women and 17.8% of men report being victims of sexual violence or coercion other than rape.
In SC over 5,500 individuals accessed services for the 1st time at a Rape Crisis Center.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sexual Assault is defined as, forced or coerced sexual contact without consent – the presence of a clear yes, not the absence of a no. It can take the form of:
- Rape
- Incest
- Child sexual abuse/molestation
- Harassment
- Exposing/flashing
- Forcing a person to pose for sexual pictures
- Fondling/unwanted sexual touching above & under clothing or
- Force, which may include but not limited to: use/display of a weapon; physical battering; or immobilization
