Richland Library is dedicated to helping you raise a reader. Reading should happen every day and all through the day. These early literacy tips will help you incorporate reading into your family's daily life.We also hope you'll come to the library every week for storytime, and let our expert staff pick out books just right for your growing reader!
Early Literacy Tips to Help You Raise a Reader:
- Read to your child every day.
- Books should be everywhere in your home and even the car. Wherever you go, carry a book.
- Simple is best. Read short books with ABCs, shapes, numbers, colors and sounds.
- Point out things in the world around your child, and ask questions about them.
- Find time to talk, sing and play with your child. Even just a few minutes a day will make a difference.
- It’s all so new. Read books that describe new things like colors, shapes and more.
- No time to share books? No worries. We have Playaway audiobooks, books-on-CD and books that can be downloaded onto your PC, MP3 player or eReader.
- Pick a time and get into a daily reading routine.
