Scrabble is a fun game that uses tile letters to create words on a game board for points. Did you know that Scrabble was called Lexico which is short for Lexicon which means language or vocabulary? Let's use our vocabulary in this #brainbreak and take those pieces off the board and put them on our tables.
Materials Needed
- 2 Cork Squares with Adhesive Backing
- 16 Lettered Tiles
- Mod Podge
- Paint Brush or Foam Sponge Brush
- Plastic Bag
Instructions
- Layout the tile letters and establish the four or five four-letter words you will be using for each coaster. The length of the words you use determines the size of your coasters. (If your word is shorter than the four or five letter configuration you are using flip the tile over to create a blank)
- Next, Peel off the white paper attached to the cork. This will reveal a sticky adhesive that will hold your tile letters to the cork.
- Line the tile letters up tightly beside each other to create a perfect square. The adhesive is a little forgiving so you should be able to adjust them if placed down crooked.
- Once you have adhered the tiles to the cork take your scissors and cut off the excess cork. Get as close as you can to the tiles while cutting.
- Last, put a plastic bag under your coasters and take your Mod Podge and generously cover the top and sides of your coaster. Allow your coaster to dry for 2-3 hours before use.
Did you Know?
- The original version of Scrabble did not come with a board. It only came with tiles.
- The number of tiles in each Scrabble game is dependent on the language. While the English version only comes with 100 tiles the Italian and Portuguese Scrabble boards have the most with 120 tiles.
Scrabble is a great way to increase your vocabulary and spelling. It is used to teach English around the world.
